Heart Felt Food: Helping Others

Heart Felt Food

Why do I do what I do? There are lots of good reasons to grow your own food, to reconnect with the earth and God…. but why do I put it all online like I do. Here’s a really big reason. People connections.

I meet some great people online. There are so many people to learn from and some that my experience can help. Occasionally there is a special connection, a sincere message from a follower. Recently I got just that. Continue reading Heart Felt Food: Helping Others

Stirring Soup

Stirring Soup: My Vision

I pictured myself as a student chef. The master chef was a wise and critical man with an amazing ability to taste the differences in every food.

He instructed me to make a certain soup using wooden utensils to stir the soup. He Continue reading Stirring Soup

Appreciating Family

Family…. That word can muster a mix of emotions. Some good, some… not so good. That’s ok. Family are those that you love and they love you. We don’t always agree, but it’s nice to know that they are always there.

I want to take this moment to publicly appreciate my family. My wife and kids are amazing. I’m so proud of each of them. This year I will have the pleasure of watching my oldest daughter deliver into this world her first child. I’ve already decided that this baby boy will learn to call me “Poppy”. Sure “Grandpa” is a fine title, but I claim “Poppy”. My daughter will be a great mommy and son-n-law will be a fantastic daddy. I love you guys.

All my kids are wonderfully created. I thank God for the opportunity to be there for them. I see each of them growing up with different gifts and talents. I pray that they grow to learn how blessed they are. I love you guys.

I feel especially emotional when I think of the woman that God blessed me with. Honey, you are beautiful, kind and smart. You teach me so much! God has given you a fantastic ability to see the needs of others. You care about people and animals. Not only do you care, but you have a unique gift to know how to help. I don’t always understand how and why you do things, but I always appreciate your heart in doing them. I love you Honey!

Just for fun, I thought I’d throw in an image of my wife’s dog J.D.. He gets so sad when she is away. I understand how he feels. 🙂

Redolf the Rude Nosed Reindeer

My cousin, Charity Hardman, has a very smart and loving daughter, Harmony, that sings a popular Christmas song a little wrong.  Well wrong according to the original intent of the song, but very right in a way to inspire her mommy to write a children’s book about the love that God has for us.

Harmony is featured as a character in the book “Redolf the Rude Nosed Reindeer”.  This book tells of the wonderful love of God and how he seeks to make us perfect.

This, fun to read book, is illustrated by Blake Kirby, daddykirbs… me.  I claim no pride in it, for it was a struggle to illustrate.  I delayed the work too long because I wanted it to be perfect, I didn’t want to take time away from my family, I wasn’t confident in my abilities…. all excuses and fears.  This book was worth working on and it needed done!

When I got the word of the art deadline I was in shock!  It was only a month away!  I had no more time for excuses or fears.  It was time to buckle down and trust that God could work through me.  I believe He did.  The book came together all in time and it is published and printed.  My work is not perfect, but the message of God’s love is.

I believe this book will change peoples lives.

The Greatest Decision

At age 7 one my sons made his commitment to Jesus! He was on the low branches of our tree in the front yard. He started asking me questions about heaven like “Will we be able to fly in heaven?”. I was amused by his questions because I don’t think adults think creatively enought about heaven.

I tried to answer his questions best I could without really answering them. I wanted him to use his imagination, which would probably be far grander than my boring answers. Even as grand as his imagination would be, still it wouldn’t compare to the grandure of heaven.

I asked my son if he knew what it took to make sure that he would spend forever in heaven with Jesus. With his answer of “What?”, I told him that he needed to ask Jesus into his heart to make Him king of his life. That’s all it took for him, he said “I’ll do that right now”. So, with a heart full of Joy I lead my son through a simple prayer of Salvation.

later on, I felt like it was just an occurance… no big deal, BUT WAIT! There isn’t any bigger deal. I didn’t want the evil one to steal the joy there is in this. So, I told family and friends so they could share in this joy with me. I do praise God that I have the blessing of 5 wonderful children!

My two oldest children have made the same decision in their life. I’m excited that my children know and understand the importance of Jesus in their lives!
