Spiritual Lessons of Stewardship and Blessings

Spiritual Lessons

Almost 5 years ago when we moved into our log cabin in the country, I told my wife that I wanted this place to also be a blessing to others. I could tell that this idea wasn’t comfortable to her. She probably pictured endless dinner parties and weekend shooting sports events in the backyard. You see, having people over is exhausting for my wife. She has a smile that goes on forever, but the stress of entertaining people is too much for a beautiful introvert like her. Continue reading Spiritual Lessons of Stewardship and Blessings

In The Tank: Daddykirbs Journey

In The Tank: The Camp Experience

It was finally my year. My older siblings had gone before me and always came home excited. What was it like? Why were people telling so many stories? What were the life changing events? It seemed there was adventure! There was emotion! There were many new friendship bonds. This event was long awaited. Yes, I had waited a lifetime to go. Go where? Church camp. I was old enough to go to church camp!

Going to church camp was a rite of passage. This was the difference between being a child in church and being a “youth” who could participate in youth events. This was a big deal.

I had heard stories of all the pranks people played. Some of them Continue reading In The Tank: Daddykirbs Journey

Stirring Soup

Stirring Soup: My Vision

I pictured myself as a student chef. The master chef was a wise and critical man with an amazing ability to taste the differences in every food.

He instructed me to make a certain soup using wooden utensils to stir the soup. He Continue reading Stirring Soup

Appreciating Family

Family…. That word can muster a mix of emotions. Some good, some… not so good. That’s ok. Family are those that you love and they love you. We don’t always agree, but it’s nice to know that they are always there.

I want to take this moment to publicly appreciate my family. My wife and kids are amazing. I’m so proud of each of them. This year I will have the pleasure of watching my oldest daughter deliver into this world her first child. I’ve already decided that this baby boy will learn to call me “Poppy”. Sure “Grandpa” is a fine title, but I claim “Poppy”. My daughter will be a great mommy and son-n-law will be a fantastic daddy. I love you guys.

All my kids are wonderfully created. I thank God for the opportunity to be there for them. I see each of them growing up with different gifts and talents. I pray that they grow to learn how blessed they are. I love you guys.

I feel especially emotional when I think of the woman that God blessed me with. Honey, you are beautiful, kind and smart. You teach me so much! God has given you a fantastic ability to see the needs of others. You care about people and animals. Not only do you care, but you have a unique gift to know how to help. I don’t always understand how and why you do things, but I always appreciate your heart in doing them. I love you Honey!

Just for fun, I thought I’d throw in an image of my wife’s dog J.D.. He gets so sad when she is away. I understand how he feels. 🙂

Redolf the Rude Nosed Reindeer

My cousin, Charity Hardman, has a very smart and loving daughter, Harmony, that sings a popular Christmas song a little wrong.  Well wrong according to the original intent of the song, but very right in a way to inspire her mommy to write a children’s book about the love that God has for us.

Harmony is featured as a character in the book “Redolf the Rude Nosed Reindeer”.  This book tells of the wonderful love of God and how he seeks to make us perfect.

This, fun to read book, is illustrated by Blake Kirby, daddykirbs… me.  I claim no pride in it, for it was a struggle to illustrate.  I delayed the work too long because I wanted it to be perfect, I didn’t want to take time away from my family, I wasn’t confident in my abilities…. all excuses and fears.  This book was worth working on and it needed done!

When I got the word of the art deadline I was in shock!  It was only a month away!  I had no more time for excuses or fears.  It was time to buckle down and trust that God could work through me.  I believe He did.  The book came together all in time and it is published and printed.  My work is not perfect, but the message of God’s love is.

I believe this book will change peoples lives.
