Chicken Tractor?

Chicken tractor… I remember the first time I heard that I had visions of chickens on little bitty Kubota Tractors (I like orange tractors) driving all over the farm.

Really? No, really it’s just a mobile cage. This cage has no bottom so the chickens can freely eat from the pasture yard. The location of tractor cage is adjusted a little every day (sometimes twice a day) to put the chickens on new fresh grass. Continue reading Chicken Tractor Instagram Moments

Compost Recipes: Building A Pile

Today I took advantage of a misty drizzly day to turn the compost and build another pile. If you’ve been around the Daddykirbs Farm for very long you already know that I love building compost piles. I truly do get a lot of Satisfaction In Making Compost.

Luke, my autistic son, loves helping. He reminds me that the compost needs turning. We found a hay fork for him at a local yard sale so he could have his own turning fork. Luke is very proud of that.

DIY Build: Bunyip Water Level

What is a water level? I guess first before going into that we need to understand a few things about water.

Water finds it’s own level.

If you think about the edge of a calm lake. It’s like a big bowl. All the way around the lake where the waters edge meets land is level. That is a contour line. If you find a way to mark that line, then drain the lake that marked line would be a level contour line in the landscape.
