Do Pill Bugs Eat Young Plants? The Great Debate!

Do Pill Bugs Eat Young Plants? The Great Debate!
The evidence is all around me. Pill Bugs eat more than just decaying matter.

You know we plant our seeds, we tend to the young seedlings then we take that huge leap of faith by planting the young plants in the garden. Now, I admit… I make mistakes. Many times the failure of my plants is clearly my fault. This time I may still be at fault, but it will be because I’m providing beautiful habitat for legions of Pill Bugs!

How Can Wood Ash Help Chickens?

Have you ever seen a chicken sun bathing? Have you seen them toss dust up under their feathers?

How Can Wood Ash Help Chickens
Our goat Buddy loves it when we visit the Chicken and Goat run. Luke loves to help his daddy.

How Can Wood Ash Help Chickens?

Chickens love to find a dry dusty area to roll around in. This is healthy for them. Birds are prone to parasites like lice and mites. Providing a nice place for them to dust bathe gives them a natural way to control the parasites. Continue reading How Can Wood Ash Help Chickens?

What’s Growing On in the Greenhouse? Starting the 2014 Gardening Season

This Winter has been weird hasn’t it? It’s been very cold all over the United States. Here in Texas, we’ve had
more hard freezes than we’ve had for a very long time.

It’s been so crazy I’m not sure when to put my seedlings in the garden. The last frost date for this year is something like March 20th. Gosh, That feels like it’ll be too late! Continue reading What’s Growing On in the Greenhouse? Starting the 2014 Gardening Season

Garden Book GIVEAWAY and MANY Special Thanks!

Please join my GIVEAWAY, but first let me start this post by saying, Wow! we’ve had a lot go on! … and we’ve been covered by the grace of God and many people that share kindness and encouragement.

Two weeks ago, our son Espen went through brain surgery for a condition called Chiari.

You can read some detail at my wife’s blog: http://thriftyfarmerswife.blogspot.com/2014/02/chiari-has-stolen-his-smile.html

Also… follow the journey of the surgery and recovery here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Espens-Chiari-Journey/634744523245729

So now we are gladly moving past some of that stress. We all can recover from missed sleep and overwhelming stress.

Here’s the GIVEAWAY

This Giveaway is well underway, but there is still time to get in on it. Follow this video to the YouTube page to make a comment. Your comment will get you an entry into the drawing for the gardening book.

The special Thanks that I express in the video is to Ray over at the Praxxus55712 YouTube channel. Here is a link to his channel and facebook page.

Ray is a gardener that shares his skills and talents with a very large audience on YouTube. I follow his channel and recently he started following mine. In one of his videos he listed his 6 favorite YouTube gardeners. I made the list! That was exciting, but what really got to me was how he spoke so kindly of me and my son, Luke.

Go check out Ray’s channel. You can find this particular video here:

Thank you so much for being with on my life’s journey! I appreciate every one of you 🙂

hatching chicks
Krystyna @ Spring Mountain Living loved this post because choosing to hatch chicks via incubator or broody hen can be a tough choice to make. The Free Range Life’s post on hatching eggs lays out the pro’s & con’s of each method, helping you decide which way is best for your needs.
