Redolf the Rude Nosed Reindeer

My cousin, Charity Hardman, has a very smart and loving daughter, Harmony, that sings a popular Christmas song a little wrong.  Well wrong according to the original intent of the song, but very right in a way to inspire her mommy to write a children’s book about the love that God has for us.

Harmony is featured as a character in the book “Redolf the Rude Nosed Reindeer”.  This book tells of the wonderful love of God and how he seeks to make us perfect.

This, fun to read book, is illustrated by Blake Kirby, daddykirbs… me.  I claim no pride in it, for it was a struggle to illustrate.  I delayed the work too long because I wanted it to be perfect, I didn’t want to take time away from my family, I wasn’t confident in my abilities…. all excuses and fears.  This book was worth working on and it needed done!

When I got the word of the art deadline I was in shock!  It was only a month away!  I had no more time for excuses or fears.  It was time to buckle down and trust that God could work through me.  I believe He did.  The book came together all in time and it is published and printed.  My work is not perfect, but the message of God’s love is.

I believe this book will change peoples lives.

My Little Gardeners

I don’t ask my kids to help me much in the garden.  It’s kinda my thing.  However, it looks like they are learning something anyway!  My youngest daughter put together her own garden using materials on hand.

She knew she needed a fence so she got one of the pieces of fencing that we had used for keeping chickens out of a flower garden.  She wanted it to be a “raised bed” so she surrounded it with rocks.  Compost is important so she raided my compost heap.  Somehow she knew that it would be best to layer it with hay and wait for spring for it all to “become the best dirt”.

Best of all she knows that Goat Poop is Garden Gold!  I found that very funny.  I know I haven’t ever used that term.

Enjoy a video of her showing off her little garden.

An EARy Night

I was asleep… very asleep.  It was about 11:30 last night when my youngest stood by my bed and tapped on my arm.  When I awoke I realized she was whimpering.  What could be wrong?  She told me that she felt like something was churning in her ear.  She loves to swim so I assumed that she had some water trapped in her ear giving her troubles.

It’s off to the medicine cabinet I go.  I made a small amount of a concoction that divers call “ear beer”.  This is a 50/50 mix of Hydrogen Peroxide and Alcohol (some divers add vinegar too).  Having my daughter lay on her side with the offending ear on up, I poured a small amount of the mix in, and… OMG!!

A BUG CRAWLED OUT!!!  Yep, it was an Earwig!  Wow, that was creeeeepy and gross.

I could NOT go back to sleep, so I stayed up for a while researching all about the earwig.  Apparently there is a myth that they lay eggs in the brain after entering through the ear.  I sure hope that’s a myth!

Many sites claim that it’s not even true that these critters go in the human ear.  Well, you heard it here… THEY DO.

After it was all done my daughter felt better and went to sleep and there is one more earwig in my septic system.  I’m not sure if I handled it all exactly right, but all is well and we all learned a little something.
